US President Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he may visit India next year as trade talks between the two countries continue. Speaking to reporters at the White House after the announcement of reducing the prices of weight loss drugs, Trump said that his talks with Prime Minister Modi are progressing smoothly. He also reiterated his personal relations with the Prime Minister.
While talking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, the official residence and office of the US President, when Trump was asked how his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and trade talks with India were going, he said, “Very good, going well.”
He (Prime Minister Modi) has largely stopped buying oil from Russia. Trump said, “He (Prime Minister Modi) is my friend, we keep talking… He wants me to come there. We are looking into this. I will go. I had a wonderful visit there with Prime Minister Modi. He is a good person. I will go again.” When asked if he was planning to visit India next year, Trump replied, ”Yes, maybe.” India will host the Quad (Quaternary Security Dialogue) summit next year, which will be attended by the leaders of Australia, Japan and the US. Earlier the 2024 summit was held in Wilmington (Delaware).
However, the dates of the conference to be held in India have not been announced yet. While talking to reporters, Trump once again reiterated his claim that he had stopped the war between India and Pakistan in May through trade. He said, “I ended eight wars, five or six of which were ended through tariffs.” Let me give you an example. If you look at India and Pakistan, they started fighting. Both of them are nuclear armed countries…they were firing at each other. Eight aircraft were shot down. Earlier there were seven. There are now eight because one aircraft that was shot down has now been abandoned.
Eight planes were shot down.” Trump said, “And I said, ‘Listen, if you guys keep fighting, I’ll put charges on you.’ Both of them were not happy but within 24 hours I resolved that war. If I didn’t have tariffs, I wouldn’t have been able to stop that war.” President Trump also described tariffs as ”a major means of national defense.”
