US President Donald Trump once again claimed to end the conflict between India and Pakistan, saying that “no one in history is more deserving” of the Nobel Peace Prize.
He criticized the award of Nobel to former President Barack Obama, saying that he had not done anything for which he would have been given this award.
In a meeting on Friday with officials of oil and gas companies to discuss Venezuela’s oil reserves, Trump once again claimed that eight planes were shot down during the conflict in May last year. However, he did not clarify whose planes were shot down.
Trump said, “Whether people like Donald Trump or not, I have stopped eight very big wars. Some were going on for 36, some 32, some 31, some 28 and some 25 years. Some were about to start, like between India and Pakistan, in which eight planes had been shot down in the sky.”
Trump also said that Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who visited the ‘White House’ (the official residence and office of the US President) last year, had given him credit for saving millions of lives by stopping the conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighboring countries.
Trump has already many times claimed to end the conflict between India and Pakistan. On May 10 last year, Trump had announced on social media that the two countries had agreed to an “immediate and complete” ceasefire after US-brokered talks.
After the death of 26 people in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, India had launched Operation ‘Sindoor’ on the intervening night of May 6-7 by targeting the hideouts of terrorists in Pakistan and its occupied Kashmir. After four days of intense attacks from both sides, both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10.
India has been vehemently denying claims of third party interference in the ceasefire.
Trump also said that there is no one more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than him because he has stopped eight wars within eight months after becoming President for the second time.
He criticized Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, shortly after becoming president, saying he had done nothing to deserve the award.
Trump said, “I don’t remember anyone in history who was more deserving of the Nobel Prize than me. I don’t want to brag, but nobody else stopped the war. Obama got the Nobel Prize, he didn’t even know why. He still doesn’t know, he walks around and says, ‘I got the Nobel Prize.’ Why did he get the Nobel Prize? “He got it immediately upon taking office, even though he did nothing and was a bad president.”
