The European Union (EU) on Thursday put Iran’s army i.e. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the list of terrorist organizations. In an important meeting held in Brussels on 29 January 2026, all 27 member countries have approved it. After this decision, the name of IRGC has now been associated with organizations like Al-Qaeda and ISIS. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said in clear words that a government which takes the lives of thousands of its own citizens is moving towards its own destruction.

What will change now after the ban is imposed?
With this big decision, many strict rules have been imposed on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. This will have a direct impact on the funding and movement there.
Assets will be frozen: All the assets and bank accounts of IRGC present in European countries will be seized. Travel ban: Members of this organization will no longer be allowed to enter any country in Europe. Funding stopped: No citizen or company of Europe will now be able to provide any kind of money or financial help to IRGC.
Action was taken against which big officials of Iran?
Not only the entire army, but many senior officials of Iran have also been targeted separately. The EU has imposed sanctions on a total of 15 people and 6 institutions, including Home Minister Eskandar Momeni. These people are accused of suppressing the demonstrations of the general public and not respecting human rights.
Apart from this, the names of Prosecutor General Mohammad Movahedi-Azad and Judge Iman Afshari have also been blacklisted. Action has also been taken against 4 other people for sending missiles and drones to Russia.
Oil and gold prices rise and Iran’s threat
The impact of this decision was immediately visible on the markets all over the world. Due to fear of increasing tension, the prices of crude oil (Brent Crude) have jumped to $ 67.03 per barrel. At the same time, investors are now running towards gold, due to which gold has reached a record level of $ 5,600.
On the other hand, Iran has also sharpened its stance. Iran has announced to conduct a major naval drill with live firing in the Strait of Hormuz. This is the same sea route through which 20 percent of the world’s oil passes. Iran’s Foreign Minister has warned that its consequences could be bad.
