The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a strict warning to all airlines. The agency has said that all flights passing through the skies of Iran (Tehran FIR) should change their route with immediate effect. This advisory was issued on 16 January 2026 and will remain in force till 16 February 2026.

Why is there danger in the skies of Iran?
EASA has stated in its report that tension between Iran and America has increased considerably. Because of this, Iranian air defense systems are on ‘high alert’. In such an environment, the risk of civilian aircraft being mistaken for military aircraft and being targeted is very high. On January 15, Iran’s airspace was suddenly closed for a few hours, which has further increased the concern of security agencies.
Which airlines will be affected?
This order will affect all those airlines which come under the rules of Europe. Apart from this, many international airlines such as IndiGo, Emirates, Flydubai and Qatar Airways have already changed their routes. Now these planes are not flying over Iran, due to which the travel time may increase. EASA has clearly stated that it is not safe to fly inside Iran at any altitude.
