There has been a slight increase in the movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. According to maritime intelligence firm Windward, the number of ships passing through here increased to 16 on Wednesday, which has been continuously increasing for the last three days. However, before the conflict started, more than 130 ships used to pass here every day, compared to which the traffic is still 95 percent less. Iran imposed tax and new rules on ships
Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz to its enemies but friendly ships are being allowed to pass. According to reports, huge fees are being demanded from ships for safe passage. The Windward firm reported that most of the ships passing through Hormuz on April 1 were tankers belonging to Iran.
Ships from countries like India, China, Russia, Pakistan and Malaysia have got permission. It has come to light that a fee of about 2 million dollars will be charged for providing safe passage to the ships. The departing ships have to pass through a special corridor inside Iran’s territorial waters. Iran says that this path is open only to their friends.
International meeting and America’s stance
Britain’s Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has held an important meeting with more than 40 countries. In this meeting, a demand has been made from Iran to open this route immediately without any conditions. America has also adopted a strict stance on this. President Donald Trump has given a deadline of April 6 and has spoken of retaliatory action if the road is not opened.
