What is Israel’s new ‘Hexagon’ plan?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has suggested a new strategic group to the world which has been named ‘Hexagon’. India has been placed as a major partner in this new framework. Apart from this, it will include Arab countries, African countries and Mediterranean countries like Greece-Cyprus. Israel says that this group is being formed to counter fundamentalism in the region.
During this tour, many important talks took place between the two countries regarding defense and technology. According to the report, India may get access to Israel’s famous ‘Iron Beam’ laser defense system. Apart from this, both the countries have also decided to jointly start a cyber security center.
Why did Pakistan protest?
Pakistan has reacted sharply to the inclusion of India in this new power group of West Asia. Pakistan’s Senate immediately passed a resolution on 25 February, in which this alliance has been described as a threat to regional peace. Pakistani senator Palwasha Khan has called it an ‘anti-Muslim axis’.
Pakistan’s Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has now left for Jeddah. There he will participate in the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) meeting and try to bring Islamic countries together on this issue. Pakistan believes that India’s involvement in the security system of West Asia is a one-way step which may upset the balance.
