The ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon is becoming more serious. On April 1, 2026, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 7 people had died in Israeli attacks in and near the southern areas of Beirut. This attack has taken place at a time when Israel is continuously claiming to target Hezbollah positions. A large number of people have also been injured due to the attacks and there is an atmosphere of fear in the residential areas.

Which areas of Beirut were attacked and how much damage was caused?
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, 5 people died and 21 were injured in the Jannah area of South Beirut. Apart from this, 2 people lost their lives and 3 people were injured in Khaldeh area. Residential buildings have also come under attack. Earlier on March 31, there were attacks in areas like Tire and Sidon in which 8 people were killed. The Israeli military says they are targeting Hezbollah commanders and their bases.

The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon has deepened since the attacks began on March 2, 2026. The loss as per the latest data released by the Health Ministry is given below:
Total deaths: 1,268 (including 125 children and 88 women)
Total injured: 3,750 (423 children and 473 women)
Displaced people: More than 10 lakh people have gone away from their homes
Peacekeeper: Three Indonesian UN peacekeepers also died in the attacks
International reaction and Israel’s new plan
Israel’s defense minister says he wants to create a security zone up to the Litani River in southern Lebanon and will not allow people displaced there to return until northern Israel is secured. Lebanese Defense Minister Michel Menassa has called the plan a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty. At the same time, United Nations Secretary General Guterres has condemned the attacks on peacekeepers and considered it a violation of international law. Human rights organizations have also expressed concern over the increasing destruction.
