Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted on telephone with French President Emmanuel Macron and the two leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation in various fields. He also exchanged ideas on international and regional issues, including efforts to end the Ukraine conflict.

A release by the Prime Minister’s Office stated that he also confirmed his commitment to further strengthening the India-France strategic partnership to the horizon 2047 roadmap, Hind-Pacific Roadmap and Defense Industrial Roadmap.
The release said, “He exchanged views on recent efforts towards ending the struggle in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s continuous support for peaceful solutions of struggle and quick restoration of peace and stability.”
Prime Minister Modi thanked President Macron for accepting the invitation of the Al -Impact Summit organized by India in February 2026 and said he was keen to welcome the French President in India.
The two leaders agreed to stay in touch and work together to promote global peace and stability.
In a post on X, PM Modi said that India-France strategic partnership will play an important role in promoting global peace and stability.
He said, “There was a very good conversation with the President Macron. We reviewed the progress in bilateral cooperation in various fields and evaluated ideas on international and regional issues, including efforts to end the struggle in Ukraine. India-French strategic partnership will play an important role in promoting global peace and stability.”
The dialogue took place by the French President two days after the announcement of the plan to deploy “Assurance Force” in Ukraine at the Paris summit on Thursday.
According to France 24 reports, Macron stood with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelansky and told reporters, “Today we have 26 countries who have formally committed commitment, while others have not yet created a position to deploy in Ukraine as ‘assurance force’ or being present in the land, sea or wind.”
According to France 24, President Zelancesi attended the Paris summit organized by Macron, while several leaders including British Prime Minister Kir Starmar attended it remotely.
Speaking in the UK General Assembly debate regarding the status of Ukraine earlier this week, India’s permanent representative P. Harish at the United Nations said that negotiations and diplomacy to end the struggle in Ukraine is the only way.
He said, “We believe that it is unacceptable to kill innocent people and no solution can be found in the battlefield. As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on many occasions, ‘This is not the era of war.’ India is ready to support diplomatic efforts to end the struggle soon. “
The ambassador also stated that Prime Minister Modi remains in touch with President Putin, President Jailonski and European leaders on the current situation.
