Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has told US President Donald Trump that Ukraine would have to leave the eastern Donnetsk region, only then Russia will stop its war. According to a Financial Times report, Putin kept the proposal in a meeting with Trump in Alaska. In return, Putin spoke of stopping his army from moving forward in the rest of the war.
Putin says that Donnetsk, 70% of which is in Russia’s possession, should be fully given to Russia. However, Ukraine still controls some important western cities of the region. Putin also demanded that the current government of Ukraine end and NATO’s expansion should stop.
Trump took the proposal to Ukraine President Volodimir Zelansky and European leaders. He asked the European leaders to leave the ceasefire (ceasefire) attempt with Moscow and directly “Peace Agreement” with Russia. Trump wrote on his social media site Truth Social, “If all goes well, we will decide a meeting with Putin.”
European leaders are worried about this proposal. French President Emmanuel Macron told Trump that Putin could not be trusted, as Russia did not follow the Minsk ceasefire agreements for 2014-15.
This news can bring a new twist in the Ukraine-Russia War, as Donnetsk is very important for protecting the eastern region of Ukraine.
