Lebanon’s latest situation and Qatar’s contribution
The situation has deteriorated rapidly since military attacks in Lebanon since March 2, 2026. So far at least 687 people have died and more than 1500 people are injured. About 13 lakh people have been directly affected by this crisis. Qatar’s Ambassador Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani showed his solidarity with Lebanon by attending the launch of this initiative at the Grand Serail in Beirut on 15 March 2026.
Apart from this UN-supported appeal, Qatar has also started emergency help for 40,500 families at its own level. Under this, 12,000 food baskets, mattresses, blankets and hygiene kits are being distributed. Organizations like Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity (QC) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) are also supporting this relief work.
United Nations intensifies its appeal for aid
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also reached Beirut to launch this appeal. He stressed that in this difficult time, solidarity will have to be shown not only by words but also by actions. He asked the international community to provide funds as soon as possible so that the relief workers do not face any hindrance in their work.
The situation has become even more serious due to the attacks on health facilities. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, at least 26 paramedics on emergency rescue missions have died in the last 48 hours. UN humanitarian coordinator Tom Fletcher has also warned that the continued attacks are causing many hospitals to close, worsening the humanitarian crisis.
