Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi has given an important statement regarding maritime security in the meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). He said that frequent attacks on ships at sea have become a major challenge for international trade. These attacks are not only causing damage to the ships, but the lives of the sailors are also at risk. Saudi Arabia made it clear that it fully supports international law and freedom of navigation.

Necessary steps taken for the safety of sea routes

Saudi Arabia has reiterated its commitment to further intensify surveillance and information exchange to improve maritime security. For this, some major rules and international agreements are being strictly followed so that security is maintained:

SOLAS Convention: This international framework will be fully implemented for the protection of life at sea.
Increasing surveillance: Surveillance and information sharing processes have been strengthened for the safety of ships.
Protection of Civilian Ships: There has been a demand to ban the targeting of civilian ships under international rules.
Preparing for help: In case of any crisis, preparations have been increased for Search and Rescue and guiding the ships.

Details of latest attacks on energy facilities in Gulf countries

Within the last 24 to 48 hours, there have been several serious reports of targeting of energy facilities in the Gulf region. These attacks can have a direct impact on the supply and prices of oil around the world. Details of these incidents and affected areas are given in the table below:

Location Type of incident Current situation Yanbu Port, Saudi Arabia Missile and drone attack Security agencies on alert Attack on Saudi Refinery, Red Sea Refinery Damage assessment underway Qatar LNG Facilities Drone attack News of fire at gas plants Kuwait Oil Refineries Missile attack targets two oil refineries

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has described these attacks as very dangerous and irresponsible. He warned that if energy production capabilities were damaged in this manner, it would have a negative impact on the entire world economy. This is also a matter of concern for expatriates living in the Gulf countries because these incidents related to the oil and energy sector affect the stability of the region.
