What issues will be discussed in the meeting?
The main focus of this emergency session will be on Israel’s efforts to expand settlements and occupy land in the West Bank. OIC has reported that Israel has recently started the process of declaring many Palestinian lands as ‘State Land’.
The organization says that this step amounts to destroying the possibilities of a Palestinian state. In the meeting, ways to challenge these decisions legally and politically will be discussed. The OIC Secretariat has called it a violation of international laws and has advocated taking strict measures to stop it.
What decision will 57 countries take together?
Foreign ministers and senior officials of 57 member countries of OIC are participating in this meeting. There has been a lot of progress in this matter in the last 24 hours. The OIC has also strongly condemned recent statements by US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, in which he supported Israel’s expansion.
During the meeting, member countries will consider a draft resolution. In this, emphasis will be laid on diplomatic routes to fix Israel’s accountability. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Jordan have also warned that the current situation can become a threat to regional security, hence everyone’s eyes are on this meeting.
