There was a telephone conversation between Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The security situation in the Middle East and South Asia was discussed in depth in this conversation. The main focus of this call, which took place on March 16, 2026, was on the ongoing military tension in the region and the situation after the recent attacks. Both the leaders have agreed to work together to maintain peace and security.
What is the main reason for this conversation?
Recently, aerial threats have been seen in Riyadh and eastern region of Saudi Arabia. Saudi Air Defense has destroyed 31 drones in the air. Apart from this, an attempt was also made to attack Shayba oil field and Prince Sultan Air Base with missiles and drones, which were foiled by the security forces.
In view of this tense environment, this high alert conversation has taken place between the two countries. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have also reiterated their defense agreement signed in September 2025 in which an attack on one is considered a threat to both. At present, no new restrictions have been imposed regarding the travel of common citizens but security has been increased in the area.
What effect has this had on Pakistan?
This regional tension has had a direct impact on Pakistan’s economy and fuel supply. Due to huge fluctuations in oil prices, the Government of Pakistan has taken many strict steps. To save fuel, a 4-day work week has now been implemented for government offices in Pakistan.
Along with this, the schools there have been closed for 2 weeks. This phone call is being considered very important after the meeting between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani PM Shahbaz Sharif in Jeddah on March 12. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry has made it clear that mutual coordination is very important to protect the region from any new threat.
