Challenging Suri’s arrest, the lawyer sought his release. The lawyer condemned the arrest, calling it a targeted and vindictive action. The lawyer argued that its sole purpose is to suppress the voices of people who support Palestinian rights. After the lawyer’s arguments, Judge Patricia Tolliver Giles issued the order saying that Suri will not be deported from the United States until the court issues such an order against it.
Georgetown University issued a statement saying that Suri is an Indian citizen. He has been granted admission to the United States to continue his research on peacekeeping in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has come here completely through visa. The University is not aware of his involvement in any illegal activity, nor has the University found any reason to arrest him.
According to American officials, Suri has been arrested under an American law. This law allows deportation.
