New Delhi, October 11 (IANS). The bones of our body are like the strong foundation of the body. Bones not only work to keep the body standing, but are the basis of every activity of our life. If the bones are strong, the body can face every challenge, but if they become weak, then walking, working and everyday activities become difficult.
Bones are special because they provide structure to the body and support the flesh and organs. Apart from this, bones also protect our vital organs, such as the skull protects the brain, ribs protect the heart and lungs, and the spine protects the spinal cord. Bones, with the help of muscles, give us movement and all kinds of mobility.
Bones are the largest store of calcium and phosphorus in the body and these make bones strong. Red and white blood cells are formed in the bone marrow present inside the bones, which are very important for our body.
But there are also some common problems related to bones. Just as in osteoporosis, bones become weak and hollow, in arthritis there is pain and swelling in the joints, due to injury, fractures occur, and due to deficiency of Vitamin D, bones become soft and painful. Apart from this, excess uric acid in arthritis causes pain in the joints.
According to Ayurveda, bones are called Asthi Dhatu and are associated with Vata Dosha. Asthi Dhatu becomes weak due to unbalanced diet, lack of sleep and wrong lifestyle. Ayurvedic herbs like sesame, ashwagandha, shatavari and hadjod nourish the bones.
Proper diet is important to keep bones strong. Eat milk, curd, cheese and sesame for calcium. For Vitamin D, take morning sunlight, eggs and mushrooms. For protein, pulses, gram and kidney beans should be eaten. Apart from this, daily 30-minute walk and yoga asanas like Surya Namaskar, Tadasana and Trikonasana strengthen the bones.
