Chandigarh, July 21 (IANS). The four-day BRICS ‘TCIM’ meeting started from Tuesday in the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Health ministers, senior officials and top medical experts from 21 countries are participating in these important health meetings organized under the chairmanship of India.
The objective of the meeting is to focus on connecting traditional medical systems with modern health services and enhancing global cooperation. Officials of Brazil and Russia involved in this meeting had an exclusive conversation with news agency IANS.
Camila Mandel Barros, a diplomat attached to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, told news agency IANS: “When it comes to traditional medicine, our focus is on understanding its scientific basis, its origin and practice, and creating the right regulatory framework. These are among the questions and concerns that people often raise with the Health Ministry. We are working to let people know that these are safe and effective practices that our people can enjoy.” It promotes a healthy lifestyle. This is an important area that we should strengthen further.”
He said that we already have a close partnership and we look forward to further strengthening it in the times to come. We hope to improve our methods in Brazil and learn from India’s experience in traditional medicine.
Barros said, “We are truly grateful for this opportunity to share our good practices and knowledge on traditional medicine with BRICS members. This is a wonderful opportunity for us.”
Apart from this, Russia’s famous quantum physicist A. “There is a legal framework for folk medicine in Russia and a centuries-old tradition of Russian traditional medicine. Practices such as apitherapy, hirudotherapy, health resort treatment and the use of natural healing resources are widely adopted. In Russia, we are also familiar with Indian traditional practices such as yoga and Ayurveda, and these methods are used in various medical centers as part of our healthcare practice,” Marchenkova said.
He said that yoga is very famous in Russia. Along with this, Russian manual therapy technique is also quite popular.
Marchenkova said, ‘I am a delegate to the BRICS meeting on traditional, complementary and integrative medicine. I would like to thank the Indian team for their hospitality and for organizing this meeting so well.”
At the same time, AYUSH Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said, “Today we are joined by experts in traditional medicine from BRICS countries. During its BRICS presidency, India had proposed to form a working group for Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) and this proposal was discussed and agreed upon.
Rajesh Kotecha further said, “In the meeting held this morning, we discussed the terms of reference, which will be finalized further. Today, a BRICS side event on capacity building and research in traditional medicine is being organized, in which all BRICS countries will participate. After this side event, the Chief BRICS Health Ministers’ Conference will begin from tomorrow.”
