Durgapur. New Township police station has arrested three accused of raping a medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal. Two more accused are being searched. According to the police, the three accused have been arrested by tracking the mobile phones which were being used near the incident site at the time of the incident. According to Durgapur Police, a search operation was carried out in the forest near the incident site throughout the night. The police have also detained some employees of the private medical college and friends of the victim medical student. All of them are being interrogated. Due to the swift action after the rape incident, the state government of CM Mamata Banerjee has also become stronger to face the allegations being leveled.
According to the information, Durgapur Police is examining all the CCTV footage from the Medical College to the incident site. The rape victim is a 23 year old medical student. His family lives in Jaleshwar, Odisha. The student’s family has alleged that on the night of October 10, she had gone out for dinner with her male friend. Three people were following him and making noises. Later his male friend ran away from the spot. After which the three people dragged the student to the forest. Where two more accused were present. After this the student was raped. The family of the medical student has told the police that the rape accused also snatched their daughter’s mobile phone and a lot of money.
After the death of the medical student, the political atmosphere of West Bengal also became heated. BJP had targeted CM Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government by reminding the incident of rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Medical College. Recently, it was told in the NCRB report that Kolkata is one of the safe cities. Which was promoted by TMC leaders on social media. By making this an issue, BJP had adopted an attacking stance on the TMC government. Now, due to the speedy arrest of the accused of rape of a medical student, Mamata Banerjee and TMC will definitely get a chance to hit back at BJP.
