Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav filed his nomination for Mahua assembly constituency on Thursday, during which he also held a road show in which he was carrying his grandmother’s photograph. Speaking to reporters, Tej Pratap said, “I have come forward with the blessings of my grandmother and my parents. On this auspicious occasion, because I have to file my nomination, I have brought my grandmother with me. She lives in our hearts.” …people of Mahua will support anyone who works for them. I worked to make Mahua a district and provide employment opportunities to the youth.”
Tej Pratap, who currently represents Hasanpur assembly constituency, has previously been the MLA from Mahua between 2015 and 2020. The seat is currently held by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Roshan. On October 13, JJD announced its first batch of 22 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections to be held in November.
Earlier this year, Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from the party and the Yadav family on charges of serious violation of moral and social values following a controversy over one of his Facebook posts. In this post he claimed to be in a relationship with a woman for a long time. This reminded of their marital dispute on social media, which was in the news a few years ago. Tej Pratap had claimed that his account was hacked.
Yadav was married to Aishwarya, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. However, within a few months, Aishwarya left the house alleging that her husband and in-laws had thrown her out of the house, and the couple’s divorce petition is pending in the family court.
Tej Pratap Yadav founded JJD after his expulsion from RJD. Currently, Mahua constituency, from where Tej Pratap is going to contest, is held by RJD leader Mukesh Kumar Roshan. On October 12, Tej Pratap unfollowed his younger brother and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Facebook. Earlier, he had also unfollowed his elder sisters Misa Yadav and Hema Yadav and now follows only five accounts, which include just three family members: his father Lalu Prasad Yadav, his mother Rabri Devi and his sister Raj Lakshmi Yadav.
The first phase of Bihar assembly elections will be held on 6 November and the second phase on 11 November. Counting of votes will take place on November 14. The upcoming election contest will be between the BJP-led NDA and the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) along with the India Bloc led by Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The India Bloc is trying to oust NDA chief Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from power. However, not only is JJD a new player in the Bihar election battle, but Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraj has also staked claim on all 243 seats in the state.
