Chhattisgarh News: Before Diwali, lakhs of poor families of Chhattisgarh have received good news. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) of the Central Government, the state has got the target of 2 lakh 23 thousand new LPG gas connections. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative.
On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Food Civil Supplies Department has issued detailed guidelines for speedy implementation of the scheme. Now ‘District Ujjwala Committee’ will be formed in every district, which will monitor the application process and eligibility. Applications will be submitted in 7 days and eligible families will get gas connections in 15 days.
The state government has decided to give priority to Naxal affected and remote districts like Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kanker and Dantewada. Here 34,425 families will be given gas connections with e-KYC facility through special camps.
Chief Minister Sai said that through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the women of Chhattisgarh are living a smoke-free life and now this scheme will provide the facility of cooking gas to more families. The government has also clarified that the scheme is only for poor families — those with an income of less than ₹10,000, do not have a government job or a big business, and do not already have an LPG connection. This step is not only important towards women empowerment but will also set an example for the spread of clean energy in rural areas.
