Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Japan’s newly elected first woman Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. He emphasized that deepening relations between India and Japan is vital for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

“Hearty congratulations to you, Sanae Takaichi, on your election as Prime Minister of Japan. I look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. Our deepening relationship is vital for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and beyond,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on Twitter.

After the election of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, good wishes have started coming from world leaders.

UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan wished Japan every success in leading it towards progress and development. “I congratulate Sanae Takaichi on becoming Prime Minister of Japan and wish her every success in leading the country towards greater progress and development,” he said on Twitter.

He said, “Building on the foundation of our comprehensive strategic partnership, I look forward to further deepening UAE-Japan relations and working together to promote the development and prosperity of our countries and peoples.”

In the speech of the newly elected Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, the issue of reconstruction of Japan through tireless work with the cooperation of each generation was raised prominently.

Addressing the members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) who elected her, Takaichi said, “I will keep my promises. We can only rebuild by uniting every generation and with everyone’s participation. Because we are only a few people, I appeal to everyone to work; work like a horse. I myself will abandon the idea of ”work-life balance.” I will work, work. Will work, work, work and work.”

He stressed that in order to “rebuild Japan and the LDP”, both must work tirelessly in their areas of expertise. She said, “I will also work with humility, so please provide me your guidance.”

Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party chairwoman Sanae Takaichi was elected prime minister by parliament on Tuesday, becoming the country’s first female leader.

Takaichi avoided a runoff by winning the first round of voting in the lower house, receiving 237 votes to 149 for Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan leader Yoshihiko Noda, Kyodo reported.

Japan’s government news agency reported that 64-year-old Takaichi won the distinction of becoming Prime Minister of Japan by winning 237 out of 465 votes in the lower house of parliament.

The challenges facing the new prime minister include a sluggish economy and unifying the ruling party, which has been hit by scandals and internal conflicts.

On Monday Takaichi, who was looking for a new political partner, reached a formal agreement with Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura, who leads the JIP, also known as Nippon Ishin no Kai.
