America’s influential senator Jean Shaheen has criticized the Trump administration for “threatening” India over oil imports from Russia, saying it is “unfortunate” that the relationship with New Delhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in years was spoiled in a few months.
This comment by the Democratic Party senator Jean Shaheen came at a time when US President Donald Trump has doubled the fee on Indian goods to 50 percent. It also includes 25 percent additional fees for the purchase of Russian crude oil by India.
“I think our foreign policy should always pursue the interests of America, but President Trump’s policies have not done so.” Instead, their policies have ruined the six decades of efforts that made America honored and impressive. ”
When he was asked if the US should impose a fee on China like a 50 percent fee imposed on India on buying oil from Russia, he said, ‘Yes, I believe the same.’
He said, “I think the President did not do this because when he had earlier talked about levying China, China said,” Okay, if you want to do so, we will not give you important minerals. ” We will stop the supply of all the items on which America depends on us. ”
He said, “I think this is happening to some extent… and in my view it is unfortunate that the relationship that India and Prime Minister (Narendra) tried to form for years with Modi have been spoiled in a few months.”
Shaheen, a senior member of the Senate Foreign Alert Committee and a senior member of the Senate’s Armed Services Committee, underlined the clear ‘contradictions’ in Trump’s foreign policy.
He said, “We are imposing a fee on Brazil, while there is America’s surplus status in business with that country. We are threatening India over oil imports from Russia, but when it comes to China, we turn our eyes. ,
Shaheen also recently referred to the picture of Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Chinfing from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and Summit held in Tianjin, China. He said, “All you had to do was to see the pictures from the Shanghai summit last week in which Modi, Xi and Putin were ‘holding hands’.
India described the move of America to impose a ‘inappropriate, inappropriate and indispensable’ move.
