Delhi and NCR came under the shadow of the most serious terror alert on Monday after 2,900 kg of explosive material and 360 kg of ammonium nitrate were recovered in Haryana’s Faridabad in the morning, and the same evening a massive blast took place near Delhi’s Lal Qila metro station, killing 8 people and injuring over 24. Officials say both incidents may be linked to the activities of the same terrorist network.

In a joint operation of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police, 360 kg of ammonium nitrate and about 2,900 kg of IED making material (chemicals, detonators, wires, timers, remote controls, walkie-talkies etc.) were recovered from an apartment in Faridabad on Monday morning.
The arrested accused include Dr. Muzammil Ahmed Ganai, Assistant Professor (Al-Falah University, Faridabad) and Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather, Doctor (Pulwama). According to investigating officials, this is the biggest terrorist recovery in recent years in the NCR region.
Faridabad Police Commissioner Satinder Kumar Gupta said, “The recovered material is highly inflammable. Preliminary investigation appears to be ammonium nitrate, not RDX. The operation is underway.”

According to sources, this operation is related to the action taken by Jammu and Kashmir Police in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), where after the arrest of Dr. Adil Rather, a flat in Faridabad was found on his trail. Police said that one assault rifle, 83 cartridges, 20 timers and 24 remote controls were recovered from the accused.
Investigations so far have indicated that this module was linked to banned organizations Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) and its network extended from Jammu and Kashmir to Haryana and Delhi.

A few hours after the revelations in Faridabad during the day, at 6:55 pm there was a massive explosion in a car parked near the Lal Qila metro station (Gate No. 1) in Old Delhi. 3-4 vehicles were burnt to ashes and the glasses of many shops were broken.
Delhi Police Special Cell, NIA and NSG immediately reached the spot and sealed the area. Death of 8 people has been confirmed and the condition of 3-4 injured is said to be critical.
Preliminary forensic investigation indicates that high-intensity industrial-grade explosives were used.
Investigating agencies are looking for links between the two incidents — similar electronic circuits and detonators found
Forensic teams said that the structure of some of the circuit boards and timer units recovered in Faridabad was similar to the pieces found at the Red Fort blast site. For this reason, NIA is investigating both the incidents considering them as part of the same criminal series. Officials said that at present the direct involvement of the terrorist organization cannot be ruled out.
