Coimbatore, November 19 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stopped his speech at a farmers’ conference in Coimbatore to draw people’s attention towards two schoolgirls. Both the girls were sitting in the crowd holding a banner. When PM Modi caught sight of him, he stopped his speech and discussed him.
Both the students named Shringa and Mithra had arrived with a hand-written banner appreciating the economic progress of the country. It read, “When I graduate, the Indian economy will be number two in the world and when I retire it will be number one. Thank you for your foresight.”
During his address, when the Prime Minister’s eyes fell on the banner, he requested to bring it on the stage. The employees present at the program took the banners from the girls and took them to the stage.
After this the people present there could not stop themselves from clapping. Prime Minister Modi raised his hands towards the two schoolgirls and said that they had been holding the banner for a long time and their hands must have got tired. He instructed the security personnel to bring the banner immediately.
After this, as soon as his Hindi speech was translated into Tamil, the girls smiled. The people present there were very excited to see this sight. After the program the girls also interacted with the media. Shringa, a Class 8 student, said, “When I graduate, the Indian economy will be second in the world and when I retire it will be first. I want to thank the Prime Minister for this future.”
At the same time, Mithra said that he had helped in writing the message. Both of them had prepared the banner together. She also said that she believed that by the time she would be eligible to vote, the BJP’s election symbol, the lotus, would be in bloom in Tamil Nadu.
The video of the conversation is viral on social media. The officials present at the program did not comment on this.
