New Delhi, December 3 (IANS). The government has abolished the requirement of pre-installation of Sanchar Sathi app in mobile phones. This information was given by the Ministry of Communications on Wednesday.

This step has been taken by the government at a time when controversy has arisen regarding pre-installation of Sanchar Sathi app and many opposition leaders and parties have raised questions on this decision.

The government said in the statement that with the intention of providing cyber security to all citizens, it had made it mandatory to pre-install the Sanchar Sathi app in all smartphones. This app is safe and solely meant to help citizens from bad guys in the cyber world.

Further in the statement, the government clearly said that this app helps all the citizens to report the people committing fraud and also protects the users. The app has no other function than protecting users and they can delete the app whenever they want.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Scindia said that the aim of the government is to protect the general public. As the facility of communication has reached the common people. Some people are using it to cheat people and Sanchar Saathi has proved to be very helpful in stopping this.

He further said that till date around 1.75 crore fake mobile connections have been canceled through Jan Partner through Sanchar Sathi App. Due to this, about 7.5 lakh stolen mobile phones have been delivered to the consumers. Also, 21 lakh mobile connections have been disconnected on the basis of consumers’ reporting.

The Union Minister said that the use of Sanchar Saathi completely depends on the consumer. If the user wants, he can activate it through registration in his mobile or can also delete it from his mobile if it is not needed.
