New Delhi, November 5 (IANS). NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Friday inaugurated two redeveloped parks, Keshav Park and Sarojini Park, in Sarojini Nagar. During this, he reiterated the council’s promise to improve the urban areas.
Addressing the gathering, Chahal stressed the importance of Sarojini Nagar Market, which is one of the major commercial hubs of Delhi. This market attracts thousands of visitors every day.
He emphasized that the mission of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is not just to meet the functional needs of citizens, but also to ensure that urban spaces become a source of beauty and entertainment for both residents and visitors.
Chahal said that redeveloping these parks included large-scale greenery, planting of trees, landscaping, installation of benches, beautification and maintenance of civil infrastructure.
Chahal said that although NDMC covers only 3 percent of the total area of Delhi, 55 percent of its area is under green cover.
On this occasion, Sarojini Nagar Market Traders Association (MTA) President Ashok Kumar Kalra, Vice President Surjit Singh Arora, General Secretary Nitin Bhatia, second representative of Sarojini Nagar MTA, NDMC department head and a large number of visitors from Sarojini Nagar Market were present.
NDMC manages 1,450 acres of green space, which includes major parks like Nehru Park, Central Park and Sanjay Lake.
The Vice Chairman also shared this year’s plantation achievements. He said that between April 1 and October 31, NDMC planted 3,426 trees, 2,993,429 bushes and 502 bamboo saplings in its area.
To encourage people’s participation, NDMC is running a special plantation drive under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ initiative involving common people, students and government and private institutions.
He appealed to the visitors and traders of Sarojini Nagar Market to cooperate with NDMC in maintaining the parks, keeping them clean, green and attractive.
Sarojini Nagar Market Traders Association appreciated the efforts of NDMC to increase urban green space.
Chahal also presented certificates of appreciation to officials and employees of the Health, Horticulture and Civil departments of NDMC for their work in reviving the parks.
He further said that these green efforts not only help in beautifying the national capital but also help in reducing the pollution level.
