Indigo has created a big crisis for air travelers across the country. The airline has canceled hundreds of flights. Since the crisis began on December 2, IndiGo has canceled over 1,800 flights, affecting over 200,000 passengers. The biggest problem for passengers is that they are unable to find other flights, and the fares on available flights are skyrocketing. Today, Saturday, December 6th and tomorrow, December 7th, flight ticket prices are looking even higher. This is because airlines operate more flights on weekends, but fares are also much higher.

A travel industry official told PTI that due to shortage of pilot crew, fares have become 3 to 4 times more expensive. He said, “The circumstances are such that when you book a flight, you cannot predict the ticket price. It can be two, three times or even more than the normal fare. Last-minute fares are usually 2-3 times higher than the normal average fare, but in the current situation, we have seen flight ticket prices increasing by up to six times.” Airfare on many routes like Delhi-Bengaluru, Kolkata-Mumbai and Mumbai-Bhubaneswar has reached close to Rs 1 lakh, which is more expensive than international travel.

By how much has the fare increased on which routes?
According to airline websites, today, December 6, Saturday, a one-way ‘economy’ category ticket on SpiceJet’s Kolkata-Mumbai route reached Rs 90,000. Similarly, Air India’s Mumbai-Bhubaneswar ticket is available for Rs 84,485. It is also important for travelers to know which flights are available on which routes.

Delhi-Mumbai route update
On December 6, 2025, fares on major Indian air routes witnessed a steep increase compared to normal days. Direct flight fares from Delhi to Mumbai range between ₹27,760 to ₹49,880 per person including taxes. On Saturday, only Air India, Air India Express and SpiceJet were operating flights, whereas on normal days the average one-way fare on this route is around ₹6,000-₹6,200. Similarly, the fare for direct flights from Mumbai to Delhi is ranging from ₹21,268 to ₹46,899, while the average fare on this route also remains around ₹6,000.

Delhi-Kolkata route flights
Direct flights between Delhi and Kolkata are also selling in the high range of ₹28,900 to ₹52,300 till December 6, 2025. According to MakeMyTrip data, Air India, Air India Express and SpiceJet flights are also available on this route, although on normal days, a one-way ticket from Delhi to Kolkata costs around ₹5,700 to ₹7,000. Meanwhile, Kolkata to Delhi fares have ranged between ₹27,999 and ₹38,809 before taxes, with Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet being the main operators.

Highest fare increase on Delhi-Bangalore route
The highest increase has been recorded on the Delhi-Bengaluru route, where flights are now charging between ₹43,354 to ₹92,669. During normal operation, the average fare on this route is only around ₹7,000. According to a report, the price of Air India’s one-stop Delhi-Bengaluru flight had reached ₹1.02 lakh. Akasa Air showed a price of ₹39,000 on the same route. It should be noted that Indigo had canceled more than 220 flights in Delhi.

Meanwhile, tickets from Delhi to Hyderabad are being sold at ₹37,320 to ₹42,112 per person. According to MMT data, only Air India Express is operating flights on this route. The fare for Air India’s one-stop flight from Hyderabad to Delhi had reached Rs 87,000.
