New Delhi. During the discussion in the Lok Sabha on electoral reforms and SIR today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, can a country’s democracy remain safe if infiltrators decide the country’s Prime Minister and the state’s Chief Minister? No. SIR is nothing more than sanitizing the voter list. I believe this harms the political cause of some parties. I sympathize with those parties, the voters of the country do not vote for them, some infiltrators used to vote for them and now they will also go away. Amit Shah said that the special thorough revision of the voter list is that the names of those who have died should be removed from the voter list, the names of those who have turned 18 years should be added and those who are voters from two places in any way should be rectified and the names of those who are foreign citizens should be selectively deleted from the voter list.

Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah says, “… This SIR is nothing but a process to clean up the voters’ list, and I fully support it. This may hurt the political interests of some parties, and I have a certain sympathy for them, because some voters, who no longer exist or are… pic.twitter.com/yXsZguXfGY

Shah said, one-sided lies were spread about SIR for 4 months. An attempt was made to mislead the people of the country. He said, for two days, we told the opposition that this should be discussed later, after two sessions, but they did not agree and we agreed. There were two reasons why we said ‘no’. One, he wanted a discussion on SIR. I am very clear that SIR cannot be discussed in this House. SIR is the responsibility of the Election Commission. The Election Commission of India and the Chief Election Commissioner do not work under the central government. If there is discussion and questions arise, who will answer it?

When the opposition said they were ready to discuss electoral reforms, we immediately agreed. Shah said, there was a hurdle for the first two days regarding the discussion on this matter. This sent a wrong message to people that we do not want to discuss it. I want to make it clear that Parliament is the biggest panchayat for discussion in this country. BJP-NDA never runs away from discussion. Whatever the topic, we are always ready to discuss as per the rules of Parliament.
