Social activist Anna Hazare has once again announced a big movement against the Maharashtra government in Ralegan Siddhi, Ahmednagar. Hazare said that he would start a fast unto death from January 30. He said that this time this would be his last protest. He clearly said that the government should implement the Lokayukta Act, which is necessary for the welfare of the people.
Promise of 2022 and broken trust
Anna Hazare reminded that in 2022 also he had fasted in Ralegan Siddhi demanding Lokayukta Act. At that time, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Agriculture Minister intervened and ended his fast. During that time, the Fadnavis government had formed a committee and prepared the draft of the law. After the law was passed in both the houses, the file was sent to the President.
Government’s silence on Lokayukta Act
Despite this, the law has not been implemented till date, on which Hazare expressed his displeasure. He said he wrote to Devendra Fadnavis seven times seeking a response on the issue, but received no response. Hazare asked that if the law is in the public interest then why is the government delaying its implementation.
Government is not just for show
Speaking to reporters at Ralegan Siddhi, Anna Hazare clearly said that the government is for the welfare of the people and not just for show. He said that the Lokayukta law is necessary for the welfare of the people, and hence, he will go on a fast unto death from January 30.
