In the 1971 war, the Indian armed forces achieved a historic victory over Pakistan. In this war, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian Army. The entire country is celebrating this day as Victory Day. The Indian Army said on the occasion that it was a victory in which Mukti Bahini and the Indian Armed Forces stood shoulder to shoulder and together marked a turning point in Bangladesh’s freedom struggle. According to the Army, this war also ended the atrocities, oppression and brutality being carried out by the Pakistani Army against an entire community. The Army says that in just 13 days, the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated extraordinary courage, strong resolve and superior military skills. As a result, 93,000 Pakistani soldiers surrendered – one of the largest military surrenders in the world.
This day is a testament to India’s loyalty to its friends and a clear message to its enemies. According to the Army, then and now – when India stands for justice, victory is certain. On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, CDS General Anil Chauhan in his message said, “On this glorious and poignant occasion of Vijay Diwas, I extend my warm greetings and congratulations to all ranks of the Indian Armed Forces, ex-servicemen and their families. This day is a reminder of the decisive victory of 1971 and symbolizes the unmatched courage, professional competence and unwavering dedication of our brave soldiers, sailors and airmen who upheld the highest ideals of duty and honour.”
He further said that remembering this historic achievement, we pay our deepest tribute to those brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and determination shaped one of the most decisive chapters in our military history. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations and remind us of the value of freedom and the eternal spirit of national service. He said the 1971 war was a shining example of combined warfare skills and national resolve. It highlighted the transformative power of the three Services’ synergy, integrated leadership and coordinated military strategy.
