In view of the travel advisory issued due to cold and fog, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday said flight operations were affected due to dense fog, although visibility is now improving. The passenger advisory states that arrivals and departures are continuing, although there may be some delays.

The airport said on Thursday that operations were conducted in Category III conditions due to low visibility.

However, IndiGo in its travel advisory said there have been changes in the flight timetable due to fluctuating visibility in Delhi NCR, Amritsar, Jabalpur and Jalandhar, and also said that as conditions change, operations may be slower than normal.

It said, “Our teams are prioritizing compliance with safety and visibility requirements. We advise you to keep an eye on your flight status. If your flight is affected, you can easily rebook your journey or claim a refund through goindigo.in/plan-b.html.”

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India issued an advisory saying that “in view of the foggy conditions prevailing over parts of northern India, there may be delays or disruption in airport operations.”

It also advised passengers to “stay in touch with their respective airlines for real-time information, rely only on official channels for accurate information and allow extra time for travel and airport procedures.”

As the winter season sets in across northern India, dense fog has engulfed Delhi and other states, reducing visibility in the morning hours and hampering flight and airport operations.

As a result, 79 departures including 2 international flights and 73 arrivals including 2 international flights were canceled from Delhi Airport today itself.

The air quality in the national capital remained very poor on Friday morning. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the overall air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 387 at around 8 am, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category.
