Vijayanagar, 12 September (IANS). More than 80 school children were admitted to the hospital on Friday in Belagavi and Vijayanagar districts of Karnataka due to alleged eating toxic food.
About 60 students living in the hostel in the Government Morarji Desai Residential School in Hirkodi village in Belgavi district were admitted to the hospital after suddenly fell ill after having breakfast in the hostel.
The children complained of stomach pain and restlessness. He was immediately admitted to a government hospital in Chikkodi town. Sources have confirmed that all students are out of danger.
Congress Legislative Councilor Prakash Hawakari visited the hospital and reviewed the situation. Health and school officials have not yet been able to know the exact cause of food poisoning.
Another incident has been reported from the Government Primary School in E. Bewinhalli village of Harpanhali taluka in Vijayanagar district of North Karnataka region.
According to officials, more than 25 children fell ill after eating hot food in the school. Some children vomited while eating food and were later admitted to the hospital. The residents alleged that the lizard had fallen in the food, which did not pay attention to the cooks, causing this accident.
Many children suffering from various symptoms were admitted to Harpanhali government hospital. Most of the children were cured. Doctors said that no child saw serious symptoms and all are out of danger. Further investigation is on.
Earlier on March 18, two people were killed and more than 40 people fell ill after eating food prepared for the Holi festival in T. Kagipura in Malavalli, Mysore. Among the sick students were from Meghalaya, two of whom died.
The students had eaten food prepared for the Holi banquet in the village.
Apart from the students, 60 people also fell ill due to food poisoning. Patients complained of vomiting and diarrhea. Officials have registered an FIR regarding the incident.
