The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to stay the release of the web series ‘UP 77’, allegedly based on the life of gangster Vikas Dubey.
Dubey’s wife Richa has filed a petition requesting to stop the release of the web series. Justice Sachin Dutta, while hearing this petition, said that the court is not in favor of interfering in the release at this stage.
Richa Dubey, wife of Vikas Dubey, claimed that the web series is an unauthorized biological depiction and contains dramatic, sensational content and its telecast will cause irreparable harm to the petitioner.
Vikas Dubey, also known as Vikas Pandit, history sheeter, was a gangster-turned-politician, based in Kanpur Dehat district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The first criminal case against him was filed in the early 1990s, and as of 2020, he has more than 60 criminal cases against him.
He was linked to the murder of a state minister and, in another incident, was the prime accused in the murder of eight policemen during an arrest attempt. Uttar Pradesh Police declared him a fugitive, placing a reward of Rs 5,00,000 lakh on him and he was arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh on 9 July 2020.
However, while bringing to UP, the police vehicle in which Vikas was present met with an accident. After the car overturned, he tried to run away and also attacked the police. Then he died in retaliatory firing by the team.
