Kaushambi: In order to give new heights to the historical and spiritual identity of Kaushambi, the Buddha Theme Park under construction at Kosam Inam village is being rapidly developed, where the life philosophy and message of compassion of Lord Buddha will be depicted through artistic sculptures.
Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh said on Friday that this theme park is taking shape in an area of about 11 hectares at a cost of Rs 22.93 crore, which is targeted to be completed by the end of the current year. This park is being developed as an exclusive spiritual tourism center for Buddhist followers and tourists coming from India and abroad. This project will not only give Kaushambi a strong place in the global Buddhist tourism circuit, but will also take regional tourism, employment and the local economy to new heights.
The Buddha theme park under construction in Kaushambi is being developed on the lines of ‘Buddhavanam’ located at Nagarjuna Sagar in Telangana. Many facilities related to meditation and cultural activities are proposed in this theme park. A meditation center based on various ‘Mudras’ like Dharmachakra Mudra, Abhaya Mudra, Bhumisparsh Mudra etc. will be set up in the park. The major attraction of the project will be ‘Buddhacharita Vanam’, in which the life journey of Lord Buddha (from birth to Mahaparinirvana) will be depicted through sculptures.
Additionally, special zones like Jataka Mural Gallery, Dhyana Vanam and Stupa Gallery being developed will connect the visitors spiritually with the life-philosophy of Lord Buddha. Specifically, the Stupa Gallery will represent major Buddhist sites from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh along with replicas of 13 iconic stupas from various countries including Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, Afghanistan and Pakistan, thereby establishing the complex’s identity as a holistic cultural-spiritual center at the national and international level.
Kaushambi is important among the sites associated with Lord Buddha in Uttar Pradesh. Tathagata spent his sixth and ninth rainy season here. During these periods, Buddha gave many sermons, which led to the widespread spread of Buddhist philosophy in this region. With time Kaushambi became a powerful center of spiritual education. This tradition continues even today. Jaiveer Singh said that ‘Kaushambi has a special place in the Buddhist circuit of Uttar Pradesh. Apart from Buddhism, there is a continuous arrival of historians, researchers and tourists belonging to other religions.
Between January and September of the year 2025, a total arrival of more than 23.19 lakh tourists was recorded in the district, which includes 2,884 foreigners. The department is continuously developing tourist facilities at the places related to Buddha Circuit, the positive effect of which is visible. Projects like Buddha Theme Park will not only preserve the ancient civilizational values, but will also be helpful in transmitting the message and wisdom of Lord Buddha to the future generations.
Principal Secretary Tourism and Culture Amrit Abhijat said that ‘Kaushambi’s Buddha Theme Park is a strong example of coordination of heritage conservation and high quality tourism infrastructure. Kaushambi has a deep connection with Lord Buddha, which makes it a site of international importance. Special attention is being given to quality and authenticity in development works. Our endeavor is to provide better tourism experience to visitors from all over the world with modern facilities.
