The three-match ODI series against New Zealand is scheduled to begin on January 11, 2026. Amidst the preparations for the series, bad news has come for the Indian team. Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been injured during net practice. According to reports, while batting against the throwdown specialist, the ball hit him just above his waist, after which he left the field.
Rishabh Pant injured again
Rishabh Pant had a long and vigorous practice session in the nets for about 50 minutes. He was batting aggressively, but got seriously injured by a ball. There is no official statement yet regarding the seriousness of the injury, but the team management is keeping an eye on his condition. This incident has happened at a time when the players are finalizing their fitness and form just before the series.
Rishabh Pant is an important player for the Indian team. He is the second wicketkeeper after KL Rahul. However, considering his recent ODI form and the ongoing selection debate, this injury could be a major headache for the team. Team India is now focusing on Pant’s recovery. If the injury is not serious, he may come back soon, but if rest is required, he may miss the initial matches of the series. The first match of the series is scheduled to be held in Vadodara, and it is expected that the team management will release an update soon.
Previous injury during England tour
Earlier, in 2025, Pant was also injured during the England tour. During the England tour, Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury in the Lord’s Test and a serious injury to his right leg on the first day of the Manchester Test. He had to be taken off the field in a golf cart. Scans revealed a fracture in his leg, due to which he remained away from the cricket field for some time. Therefore, Pant’s injury is once again a big blow for Team India.
