Google has given a major upgrade to its AI video generation model, Veo 3.1. This model now produces better videos with better prompt understanding and more stable characters. The most important thing is that it now provides native vertical video support for Shorts and Reels. This means creators no longer need to crop videos or compromise on quality.
Ingredients become smarter for video features
Google’s Ingredients to Video feature has been significantly improved in this update. Users can now create high-quality videos using only reference images and short text prompts. In the past, long and detailed prompts were necessary, but now even short instructions can generate a story, dialogue, and cinematic feel. According to Google, the new model shows characters and objects more consistently across different scenes.
Characters and scenes remain consistent
The biggest strength of Veo 3.1 is its better character consistency. Google claims that the character’s face, look and overall appearance will remain the same throughout the video. Not only characters, but also backgrounds, textures and props can be reused in different scenes. This will make it easier for creators to create longer, connected stories by combining short clips.
Vertical video support for Shorts and Reels
With this update, Google has also added native support for the 9:16 aspect ratio. This means that videos will now be directly generated in vertical format. Creators can upload them to YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels or TikTok without cropping. Google says that this feature will especially simplify the workflow of creators working on mobile-first platforms.
Better quality and availability of the new Veo 3.1
Google has also improved the video output quality. 1080p videos are now clearer, and the option for 4K upscaling has been added. However, high-resolution export is not yet available on all platforms. The new Ingredients to Videos feature is available in YouTube Shorts, the YouTube Create app, and the Gemini app. Businesses and developers can access it through the Flow app, Gemini API, Vertex AI, and Google Vids.
