Kathmandu. Nepal President Ramchandra Paudel appealed to all sides to cooperate in successfully conducting the election of the Representative Assembly to be held on March 5 next year next year. The appeal was made by the major political parties of the country after criticizing the dissolution of the lower house on Friday midnight. The President of Nepal appealed to save the constitution and parliamentary democracy in the country for new elections after internal turmoil and civil unrest.
Dissolving the lower house was a major demand for Jane-G protesters, as they thought the current members of Parliament were involved in corrupt conduct. The House was dissolved on the recommendation of newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
President Paudel issued a press statement on Saturday evening, saying that a peaceful solution has been found in a very difficult and frightening situation and described it as an opportunity that was possible due to clever intervention.
He said, “The Constitution and Parliamentary System have been preserved and the federal democratic republic remains intact.” He called upon all parties to work together to use this difficult opportunity honestly and to conduct elections in March.
Earlier, eight political parties represented in the disbanded House of Representatives expressed their disagreement over the disintegration of the House and said that it was against democratic principles and described the decision as unconstitutional.
Eight political parties said in a joint statement, “This is against the examples and constitutional traditions set up by Article 76 (7) of the Constitution. Such unconstitutional behavior cannot be acceptable to us.”
The parties condemning the dissolution of the House include Nepali Congress, Nepal Communist Party (United Marxist-Leninist) or CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Integrated Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party, Janmat Party, Democratic Samajwadi Party and Citizen Removal Party.
The conversation between its leaders, the President of Nepal and the Nepal Army was prolonged, as the major political parties were also advocating to continue the lower house due to the demand for the dissolution of the House by the generation-G protesters.
Some leaders of generation-G protesters were telling the media that they could not back down from the demand to dissolve the House.
There was also a debate on the fact that the first new Prime Minister should be appointed or the lower house should be dissolved. The leaders of the Generation Z were insisting on dissolving the House before the appointment of the new Prime Minister. The President Paudel, who is also the patron of the Constitution, agreed to appoint the first Prime Minister and recommend the dissolution of Parliament by the new Prime Minister after raising the issue of constitutional basis without the Prime Minister’s recommendation. Then, on Friday night, the House was dissolved at around midnight after Karki’s appointment as Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, a Nepali digital newspaper quoted newly appointed Prime Minister Karki, saying, “The President was saying that Parliament could not be dissolved without the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Ultimately, the President also got ready to dissolve it first. All documents were ready. Since the House was about to be dissolved anyway, I felt that it was not or later, it does not make any difference.”
