New Delhi, January 22 (IANS). Today, spending more time on mobile and laptop, wrong eating habits and hectic daily routine have made our body tired from inside. During this time, people often ignore problems like stomach problems, gas, constipation, restlessness, nervousness, joint pain or insomnia, whereas these are signs that the body’s balance is deteriorating.
According to Ayurveda, when the flow of energy within the body stops, then only disease occurs. A simple way to balance this energy is through hand postures. Through fingers we connect directly with the brain and nervous system.
A particular posture of fingers has a profound effect on the body. According to Ayurveda, our body is made up of five elements: sky, air, fire, water and earth. When any of these elements is unbalanced, it directly affects health. Among these, air element is considered to be the most unstable. If this Vayu gets disturbed in the body, then problems like gas, indigestion, constipation, restlessness, joint pain, increased heartbeat and nervousness start appearing.
To calm and balance this air element, a special posture has been prescribed in yoga, which is called Vayu Mudra. This posture is very simple in appearance, but its effect goes deep within the body. Ayurveda believes that the thumb represents the fire element and the index finger the air element. When we bend the index finger and press it under the thumb, the fire element controls air.
The method of doing Vayu Mudra is very easy. Sit in a quiet place. Keep your spine straight and close your eyes. Now bend the index finger and press it at the base of the thumb and keep the remaining three fingers straight. Keep breathing normal. As soon as you sit in this posture, the body gradually starts relaxing. Practicing it daily for at least 15 to 20 minutes gives better results.
Exercise done in the morning on an empty stomach with a calm mind is considered more effective, but if needed, it can also be done sitting on a chair or while walking.
The effect of Vayu Mudra is first visible on the nervous system of the body. This posture works on the nerves, due to which restlessness, nervousness and tension gradually reduce. When the mind is calm, the body parts also start working better. It has a direct effect on the digestive system.
Problems like gas, bloating and indigestion occur because air gets trapped in the intestines. Vayu Mudra helps in releasing this trapped energy, which makes the stomach feel lighter.
Blood circulation also improves with this posture. When blood flow improves, nutrition reaches the joints and muscles. This is the reason why this posture is also considered helpful in joint pain, sciatica and muscle stiffness.
