The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday conducted search operations at several locations in three border districts of Punjab as part of the ongoing investigation in the 2025 Amritsar temple grenade terror attack case. The NIA claimed that several incriminating materials, including mobile phones, digital devices and documents, have been seized during the search operations at 10 locations in Punjab’s Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur districts.
On the night of March 14 last year, a blast took place outside the Sanatan Temple by Thakur in Khandwala on Sher Shah Road, Amritsar. The NIA said the attack was carried out on the instructions of several foreign agents, who had arranged explosives and weapons to spread terror in the area.
“The attack on the temple was one of several grenade attacks carried out as part of a terrorist conspiracy by operatives of various terror groups in the state of Punjab,” the agency said in a statement. The NIA said its investigation into the case has also revealed that operators based abroad had recruited and financed several individuals in India to carry out these grenade attacks.
The anti-terrorism agency, after taking over the investigation in the case from the state police, found that the grenade at the Amritsar temple was thrown by accused Vishal and Gursidak.
Vishal has been arrested by the NIA, while Gursidak is now dead. “The duo had obtained the explosives from Sharanjit Kumar, a resident of Kadian, Batala, who had fled to Jharkhand and Bihar, from where he was arrested by the NIA in September.” It said Sharanjit, who had received the consignment of explosives and grenades from foreign dealers, had also hidden three hand grenades and a pistol, which were later recovered by the NIA from a location in Gurdaspur.
