Honda Cars India’s VP Sales and Marketing Kunal Bahl has confirmed that the first Honda electric model in India will be launched in FY 2027
Many big brands like Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra are already selling electric vehicles in India. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are also going to launch their first EV next year. But Honda was still focusing only on hybrid vehicles and was completely away from the electric car. Now Honda Cars India’s VP (Sales and Marketing) Kunal Bahl has clearly stated that the first Honda electric car in India will be launched by the next financial year i.e. by the end of 2026.
Earlier this year, Takashi Nakajima took over as President and CEO of Honda Cars India. During his first informal conversation with the media in Delhi, he confirmed that Honda’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) was being developed and its sale would start in the next financial year. He further confirmed that the upcoming Honda EV would not be based on the elevate SUV, unlike previous reports.
There was speculation that Honda is working on elevate EV, which will be its first all-electric model in the Indian market. However, the top officials of the Japanese vehicle manufacturer have clearly denied this. Although the company has not yet confirmed the body type, the first Honda EV in India is likely to be a midsize SUV that will compete with vehicles like Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV and Maruti E-Vitara.

It is also discovered that Honda is quietly working on setting up charging infrastructure so that in the coming 8–12 months, when its electric car is ready to hit the streets, the required charging network is ready. The Japanese vehicle manufacturer has started equipping the dealership with fast-charging DC charger so that buyers can quickly charge their electric SUVs without any range worrying.
Currently, Honda Cars India sells only petrol models in the country as City, Amaze, Eleivate and Old Amaze. It also sells City E: HEV Strong-Hybrid in our market, while the CNG versions of Amaze and Eleivet are also sold. Therefore, the company’s model line-up in India is much smaller than other auto brands.
