A huge explosion occurred at Iran’s largest port Shahid Rajai on 26 April 2025. The incident occurred in Bandar Abbas city where containers filled with flammable materials such as rocket fuel caught fire. The explosion was so powerful that its impact was felt up to 50 kilometers away and earthquake-like tremors occurred. The windows of nearby buildings were broken and huge plumes of smoke were seen in the sky from several miles away. Sodium perchlorate containers imported from China are said to be the main center of this explosion.
How much damage was caused and how many people were injured
Till the latest information is received, the death toll has reached 40. More than 1000 people have been injured in this horrific accident, out of which the condition of 190 is still critical. Fire brigade teams had to work continuously for two days to extinguish the fire at the port. Despite helicopters and heavy water cannons, the fire flared up several times. However, work has been partially resumed in some parts of the port where there was no damage.
Reason for the blast and statement of officials
Iranian MP Mohammad Siraj has blamed Israel and Mossad for this incident. He claimed that explosives were already planted at four different places at the port. On the other hand, Israeli officials have completely rejected these allegations. President Massoud Pezeshkian took stock of the situation by conducting an aerial survey. Investigating agencies are trying to find out whether it was a conspiracy or just an accident. Authorities in Hormozgan province have declared three days of mourning.
