The United Nations Humanitarian Office has warned that a worrying situation persists in the city of Dilling, located in Sudan’s South Kordofan province. The routes to reach the city are still cut off and the crisis there is deepening due to the long siege. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, while briefing journalists in New York, said that humanitarian aid operations are currently being carried out only on a limited scale. A very small number of non-governmental organizations are carrying on with their work under difficult circumstances. According to UN partner organizations, last year, half the population of the city of Dilling was forced to flee the city. At the same time, the people who are currently stuck there are facing shortage of food, health care and other basic goods and services. In the Kordofan region, the International Organization for Migration reported that from October last year to January this year, more than 88 thousand people were forced to be displaced due to violent conflict. Meanwhile, in North Darfur province, several civilians were killed in drone attacks on Monday. The UN spokesperson said the fighting is destroying livelihoods and straining health services. In search of safety, civilians are moving from North Darfur’s capital Al Fashar to the town of Tawila, where they are being provided food, shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene and nutritional support. The United Nations has appealed to all warring parties to immediately reduce violence and tension and to pursue genuine dialogue with the aim of bringing an immediate end to the conflict. Additionally, there have been calls for financial support from donors to deliver relief to populations in need. Violent conflict broke out between the Sudanese armed forces and paramilitary forces (RSF) in April 2023, amid differences over control of the country. On 26 October last year, the RSF captured Al Fashar, the capital of North Darfur province, after a 1.5-year siege, where large-scale casualties were reported. Allegations of displacement and atrocities came to light. After this, the fighting has now centered in the Kordofan region. In Sudan, 21 million people are facing hunger crisis and 12 million have been forced to leave their homes. This is the largest displacement crisis in the world. Ukraine: Russian drone strikes cause loss of life and property © UNHCR/Oleg Platonov Two UN staff look at a damaged residential building in the city of Dnipro, Ukraine. There are reports of casualties among many civilians including children in the horrific drone attack that took place in Odessa city of Ukraine on Tuesday. UN Office for the Coordination of Emergency ResponseOCHA) said that residential buildings and energy installations have been damaged in this attack. Electricity supply has come to a standstill for 60 thousand families. Schools have also been reported damaged in these attacks. In the last few days, attacks on energy plants have also continued in the harsh winter weather. There are reports of damage to homes and civilian establishments in the fighting front areas as well. Hundreds of apartments and several schools have been damaged in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. In the Kharkiv region, a passenger train was hit by a drone strike on Tuesday, killing at least 4 people and injuring 2 others. The nearest railway station to the area, located in the Donetsk region, is vital for people fleeing the violence. Meanwhile, other security measures have been taken to protect the general public from the violence. Being sent to places. In the Dnipro region this month, local authorities have evacuated at least 1,300 children and their families. Humanitarian aid organizations have arranged for these families with blankets, hot food, psychosocial and medical services, flashlights and other essential items. Russian military forces began their full-scale offensive in Ukraine on 24 February 2022, after which 50 thousand civilians are reported to have been killed or injured. However, the actual figure is likely to be much higher. Against the backdrop of the fighting, Ukraine is facing a deep humanitarian crisis.
