New Delhi. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament House on Sunday. Union Health Minister JP Nadda described the General Budget 2026-27 as a public welfare one and giving a new direction to the goal of ‘Developed India’. He said that this budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman under the leadership of PM Modi is all-inclusive and all-embracing, which will establish India as the world’s largest economic power. This is the budget of the youth power of the country. I congratulate Prime Minister Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and their entire team for this historic budget of self-reliant India. He said that the commitment of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi to provide health services to every person is evident from the fact that in the last 12 years, an increase of 176 percent has been recorded in the budget of the health sector. The budget of more than Rs 1 lakh 5 thousand crore allocated in the health sector this year is about 9 percent more than last year’s budget.
He said that this budget has also focused on mental health, which is a welcome step. Under this, the announcement of upgradation of Central Psychiatry Institutes located at Ranchi and Tezpur and establishment of NIMHANS in North India is commendable. The establishment of WHO Traditional Medicine Center in Jamnagar is a matter of pride for all Indians. Along with the increase in the health budget, the focus has been on research and development to strengthen the health sector of the country.
Along with this, he said that the proposal to strengthen CDSCO to keep the medicines manufactured in India up to world class quality standards is commendable. Under the Biopharma Shakti Initiative, the government has proposed an investment of Rs 10,000 crore in the biopharma sector over the next 5 years, which will promote domestic production of modern biological drugs and biosimilars. The announcement of establishment of three new NIPER institutes and upgradation of existing seven institutes is a historic step for the development of the pharma sector. Apart from this, provision has also been made to develop three special chemical parks in the states to strengthen the chemical industry.
He said that it has been proposed to empower allied healthcare institutions to deal with the increasing non-communicable diseases due to changing lifestyles, which will produce more than one lakh trained professionals in the next five years. This will provide employment opportunities to the youth and improve the quality of health services. Along with this, the proposal to establish Trauma and Emergency Center in every district hospital of the country will provide quick and easy medical facilities to the general public. There has also been a significant increase in the budget of ICMR and the Department of Health Research to promote medical research and innovation.
He also said that the main objective of this budget is to maintain sustainable economic growth, provide equal opportunities to all sections and take the country forward with the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. This budget presents a strong outline for village, poor, farmer, youth and women power as well as industrial development.
