Mumbai, February 1 (IANS). Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray described the Union Budget as a failure on the test of public expectations.
He argued that despite Maharashtra being the largest contributor to the national exchequer, the state has once again been neglected in terms of critical infrastructure or financial allocation.
He said the budget has failed to generate any confidence among the public regarding employment generation or inflation control.
He asked that Maharashtra, which is the biggest contributor to the Central Government’s treasury, has not even been given attention. Be it GDP, GST or Income Tax, we are the biggest contributors and proportionately the most neglected.
He said that development is truly national and natural, unlike the failed GIFT scheme. But then, thinking beyond elections would truly be a gift to India.
Shiv Sena’s UBT MP Sanjay Raut claimed that there is no plan for the middle class and the poor in the budget.
He highlighted the lack of significant income tax relief for the salaried class, especially when taxpayers were expecting standard deduction or changes in tax slabs.
He commented that the negative reaction of the stock market during the speech is proof that the vision of a developed India 2047 has no immediate solid foundation.
MP Priyanka Chaturvedi made headlines on social media by saying that the Finance Minister’s attire (Tamil Nadu’s Kanjeevaram silk saree) was a sign of the government’s focus on election-bound states.
He suggested that the budget was more a matter of political posturing for states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal than the economic condition of the country.
He described the budget as a major disappointment at a time of global economic uncertainty which did not live up to expectations.
