Changes in the Rules of HDFC and ICICI Bank: HDFC and ICICI Bank have announced to implement new fees on credit cards, ATMs and IMPS transactions from 1 July 2025 for their customers. These changes may cause additional burden on the pockets of customers in metro and small cities.

HDFC Bank’s new rules

HDFC Bank has announced to implement 1% additional fees on several transactions related to credit cards.

Gaming Apps: If you spend more than Rs 10,000 per month on online gaming platforms like MPL, Dream11, Junglee Games or Rummy Culture, then you will have to pay 1% fee at the entire expense. This fee will be limited to a maximum of Rs 4,999 per month. No reward points will be found on these transactions.

Third party wallets: Wallets like Paytm, Mobikwik, Freecharge, or Ola Money will be charged a fee of over Rs 10,000 per month, which will be limited to a maximum of Rs 4,999.

Fuel expenses: 1% fee will be applicable at fuel expenses more than Rs 15,000 per transaction, up to a maximum of Rs 3,000 per transaction.

Utility bill: Bills like electricity, water and gas will be charged Rs 50,000 per month (consumer card) or Rs 75,000 (business card) at a cost of 1%, which will be limited to a maximum of Rs 4,999 per month. This fee will not apply to insurance payment.

New rules of ICICI Bank

ICICI Bank has changed the fees on ATM and IMPS transactions.

3 free transactions every month in metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad), 5 free transactions in small towns.

After this, financial transactions (money withdrawal) will be charged Rs 23 (first Rs 21) and non-financial transaction (balance check, mini statement) Rs 8.5 per transaction fee.

IMPS Fee

Up to Rs 1,000: Rs 2.5 per transaction.

1,001 to 1 lakh rupees: 5 rupees per transaction.

1 lakh to 5 lakh rupees: Rs 15 per transaction.

Debit card fee: The annual fee of debit card has increased from Rs 200 to Rs 300 and the replacement fee from Rs 200 to Rs 300.

These new charges will affect customers who spend more on gaming apps, wallets, fuel or utility bills. Experts suggest that customers keep their monthly expenses within the limit so that additional fees can be avoided. HDFC has also clarified that gaming and wallet transactions will be identified based on the merchant category code (MCC).
