Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif reached Doha, Qatar on 23 and 24 February 2026, where he had a special meeting with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rehman. The main objective of this two-day visit was to take the trade and old relations between the two countries to new heights. During the talks, Qatar has expressed full confidence in increasing investment and security cooperation in Pakistan.

What was the decision regarding investment and trade?
In this meeting, the biggest emphasis was on increasing economic cooperation. Both sides have talked about taking mutual relations to a ‘higher strategic level’. Qatar has shown interest in several major sectors through Pakistan’s ‘Special Investment Facilitation Council’ (SIFC).
Energy and Infrastructure: Qatar is planning to invest money in these areas.
Farming and Logistics: Pakistan has emphasized on exporting agricultural products and food items to Qatar.
Task Force in Ramadan: Both the countries have decided that a special ‘task force’ meeting will be held in the coming month of Ramadan, in which investment proposals will be finalized.
What was special for security and migrants?
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also met Qatar’s Minister of State for Defense Sheikh Saud bin Abdul Rahman. In this, there was discussion on deepening the cooperation between the armies of the two countries. Recently, Qatar’s team won the gold medal in the ‘PATS-2026’ competition held in Pakistan, which was considered a big achievement.
Apart from this, the facilities for about 3 lakh Pakistanis living in Qatar were also discussed. These expatriates help in the development of Qatar and send money to their country. The Prime Minister also held a meeting with ‘Qatar Businessmen Association’ to increase direct contact between private companies.
