The Ministry of Defense (MoD) has confirmed that the country was attacked with ballistic missiles from Iran. UAE’s air defense system displayed promptness and destroyed these missiles in the air. However, one person has lost his life due to falling missile fragments and there has been damage at some places.
What is the latest situation after the attack?
According to officials, the missiles were intercepted in the skies over Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Reports suggest that Al Dhafra Air Base was the main target of this attack. After the missile burst in the air, its debris fell in a residential area of Abu Dhabi.
An Asian citizen has died in this incident. Windows shook due to the explosions in the Corniche area of Abu Dhabi. The Defense Ministry has said that the THAAD system stopped the missiles and the situation is now under control. The general public has been advised not to touch any debris or broken things and to immediately inform the police.
What is the new update for flights and passengers?
There has been a huge impact on air travel after this attack. Keeping security in mind, UAE, Qatar and Iraq have closed their airspace. This has had a direct impact on flights to and from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Lufthansa, Air France, Wizz Air and Air Arabia have stopped their flights until the beginning of March. Passengers have been advised not to travel to Dubai (DXB) or Al Maktoum (DWC) airports without confirmation. Due to the ongoing tension with America and Israel, alert is also in force in Bahrain and Qatar.
