New Delhi, March 6 (IANS). With the departure of winter, the summer season has arrived. In such a situation, cooling the body from within in the hot summer sun becomes the biggest challenge. Ayurveda recommends consumption of fennel, which is rich in medicinal properties, which not only keeps the body cool from inside but also provides many benefits to both body and mind.
According to Ayurveda, the simplest and natural way is to consume fennel. Fennel is considered to have a cooling effect, which controls the body temperature. Protects from heatstroke and soothes heat and burning sensation in the stomach. In Ayurveda, it is called a herb that balances Pitta dosha, hence drinking fennel water, sherbet or tea is very beneficial in hot weather. It not only provides coolness, but also keeps the digestion healthy and provides relief from many everyday problems.
Fennel is rich in antioxidant, antibacterial and pain-relieving properties. It strengthens the digestive system, removes problems like gas, bloating, indigestion, constipation and cramps. Chewing fennel seeds or drinking fennel tea after meals reduces heaviness and discomfort in the stomach.
According to the National Institute of Ayurveda, fennel keeps the digestion process smooth and also provides relief from chronic problems like irritable bowel syndrome.
The special benefit of fennel in summer is that it removes excess heat from the body, reduces swelling, removes fatigue and keeps the mind fresh. Regular consumption helps in weight control, balances hormones and increases the glow of the skin. It removes bad breath, provides relief from shortness of breath and helps in removing excess water from the body.
The method of making fennel tea or sherbet is easy. For this, boil 1 teaspoon fennel seeds in 1 cup water for 5-10 minutes, filter it and drink it hot. You can add honey or lemon for taste. Meanwhile, to make sherbet, grind fennel and filter it in water. You can add light sugar or honey for taste. Drinking fennel water on an empty stomach helps in detoxification and keeps you cool throughout the day. Fennel-mishri mixture also works very well in summer.
Fennel is a cheap, home and effective remedy, which provides both natural coolness and health in summer, however avoid consuming it in excess quantity. Pregnant women or those with any health problems should consult a doctor.
