Udaipur/Jaipur. In an important action, the Special Unit of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Udaipur on Wednesday arrested Constable Nagendra Singh of Special Team (Vritta Nagar East) of Udaipur District Police red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000. Three other members of the team—ASI Shakti Singh, Head Constable Arjun Singh and Constable Anil Meena—are also accused in this case, whose search is on.
The complainant, who runs a car service garage near Eklingpura underpass, had lodged a complaint with the ACB. According to the complaint, about 5 days ago, four policemen in plain clothes (Nagendra, Shakti Singh, Arjun and Anil Meena) came to his garage in a government vehicle. Describing himself as a member of ‘Deputy Saheb’s special team’, he searched the vehicles parked in the garage. The accused threatened to implicate the garage operator in false cases. He said, “You cut off stolen vehicles, you employ minors and you do not pay GST.” The policemen demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 per month for not taking action by showing fear of seizing the garage and filing a case. When the victim pleaded, the accused agreed to take Rs 20,000.
The complaint was verified on March 6 under the leadership of Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB Udaipur, Rajeev Joshi, in which it was confirmed that bribe was demanded. On Wednesday, the team of Police Inspector Laxman Dangi laid a trap. As soon as constable Nagendra Singh reached to take the bribe of Rs 20,000, the ACB caught him.
During interrogation, arrested constable Nagendra Singh admitted that he, ASI Shakti Singh, Head Constable Arjun Singh and Constable Anil Meena always go out for recovery in a government vehicle, but today he came alone on a motorcycle. ACB is now searching for the three absconding team members.
ACB Director General Govind Gupta said that a case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is going on under the supervision of Additional Director General Smita Srivastava.
