New Delhi, March 13 (IANS). Yoga is a valuable part of the ancient Indian tradition, which is most effective in balancing body and mind. One of these simple and beneficial easy ‘Viparita Karni’ asanas is, doing it regularly reduces mental stress.
‘Viparit Karni’ is made up of two Sanskrit words – ‘Viparit’ which means ‘reverse’ and ‘Karani’ which means ‘action’. As is clear from the name, in this asana the position of the body becomes inverted. This is considered to be a natural form of ‘Sarvangasana’, in which the legs have to be raised upwards. This yoga asana is very beneficial for physical health.
At the same time, in colloquial language you call it ‘Legs up the Wall Pose’. In Ayurveda it is said to reduce wrinkles. According to him, ‘Viparita Karani’ asana is a very beneficial yoga asana, during which the body is inverted. In such a condition, blood circulation from the lower parts of the body turns towards the heart and brain. It not only stimulates digestion but also enhances facial glow.
Doing this daily helps in getting relief from physical problems like stress, insomnia and swelling.
From the point of practice, this asana is quite easy for beginners, which can generally be done for 5 to 15 minutes. To do this, sit close to the wall and slowly lie down and rest your legs straight upwards on the wall. If there is difficulty in keeping the legs up in the beginning, then support can be taken by placing a blanket or pillow below the waist, which makes it easier for the body to balance. Keep the head and shoulders on the ground. Extend your arms to your sides or place them on your stomach, palms facing up. Close your eyes and take deep, slow breaths. Now remain in this posture for some time as per your capacity.
It may be difficult to do in the beginning, but if done regularly, it will become easy. However, those with severe neck or back problems, high blood pressure, glaucoma or in the late stages of pregnancy should consult a yoga instructor or physician before doing it.
