The UAE Ministry of Defense (MoD) recently destroyed in mid-air a drone and missile threat coming towards Fujairah. After destroying the drone in the air, its debris fell down, causing a fire in Fujairah Port and parts of the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone (FOIZ). It is a matter of relief that no human being was harmed in this incident. The civil defense team immediately brought the fire under control and stopped it from spreading further. Fujairah Media Office has also clarified that there were no casualties in the accident.
What are the new rules for common people and migrants?
After this incident, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued some important alerts for the general public and expatriates living in the Gulf, which are very important to follow.
Go to a safe place immediately: People have been asked to go to a safe concrete building as soon as they hear the sound of siren or alert.
Stay away from windows and doors: Stay inside to avoid breaking glass or other objects during explosions outside.
Do not touch debris: If any debris or unknown object falls somewhere, do not touch it at all or make a video of it because it may contain dangerous chemicals.
Rules for drivers: People driving should reach their destination or some safe place instead of stopping the vehicle in the middle of the road and making a video.
Complete ban on flying drones
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has imposed a complete ban on flying drones and small sports aircraft across the UAE. This rule is now mandatory and if anyone violates it, strict legal action will be taken against him. Apart from this, the government has given strict instructions that people should trust only the information received from official channels and should not spread any kind of rumor on social media.
What was the impact on oil prices and port operations?
After this accident, as a precaution, the work of loading oil at Fujairah Port was stopped for some time. Fujairah is a major bunkering hub of the world and due to the work stoppage, bunker fuel prices saw a jump of about $40 per tonne. The cost of war-risk insurance for ships transiting the Gulf has also increased. However, Energy Minister Suhail Mohammed Al Mazraoui, after inspecting the spot himself, said that the energy supply in the country is completely stable and the system is working normally.
